CAMERA CASH

A cash strapped Nagin administration has threatened to cut City Hall work week to four days. However, the traffic light cameras installed on New Orleans street intersections a year and a half ago are on pace to produce over $10 million in traffic fines for the city!

This added revenue may help stave off these budget cut measures, but New Orleans motorist are not happy with the cameras, pictures or fines they produce!

According to a survey of 1.3 million Americans, conducted by researchers at the University of Warwick in the UK and Hamilton College in the United States and published in the journal Science , the happiest people are in Louisiana!

The most unhappy or saddest people are in New York!

Baton Rouge has been ranked 10th out of 100 cities on track for the fastest economic recovery, in a Forbes magazine study. The results were based on a city’s unemployment rate, gross metropolitan product , foreclosures , home prices and home sale rates. Omaha-Council Bluffs, Neb.-Iowa came in at the #1 spot.

New Orleans Mayor, C. Ray Nagin, has again flown off to a foreign country, this time Mexico, in search of new trade “opportunities”. So far, the Mayor has visited China, Australia , and Cuba looking for “sister city” agreements.

There is no proof that any of these foreign travels have or will benefit the city, but it is allowing the Mayor to see the world!

The National Center on Family Homelessness , based in Newton Mass., has reported that Louisiana has the highest percentage of children living in homelessness.

There are 300,000 children living in poverty in the state and of that number, 204,000 of these children are homeless!

21,400,000, yes 21.4 million, people watched the New Orleans Saints beat the New England Patriots on Monday Night Football! It was the second most watched football game in cable tv history!

Two out of every three televisions in New Orleans was tuned in to the game.

The hurricane season has official ended!

The New Orleans Saints continued a journey into new territory with a record of 11-0. The Saints beat the vaunted New England Patriots on Monday Night Football 38-17!

An oil tanker holding $20 million of crude oil, headed for the Port Of New Orleans , was captured by pirates off the coast of Somali yesterday.
