La. ranks third for corruption

Louisiana ranked third in an analysis of the most corrupt states in the United States by the Chicago Tribune. The ranking was based on federal corruption convictions from 1998 to 2007 per capita. The state had 332 convictions during that period, or 7.7 per 100,000 residents. Only Washington, D.C., with 380 convictions or a per capita or 64.6 per 100,000 residents and North Dakota, with 53 convictions and a per capita rate of 8.3, ranked higher. The newspaper notes that North Dakota's small population skews its per capita rate. "But lately we have noticed a shift in the public's attitude toward corruption. It's no longer a spectator sport. People don't want to tolerate it anymore," says Rafael Goyeneche, president of the Metropolitan Crime Commission, a corruption watchdog group.

*Sexting (v): To trade images with dirty messages, nude or sexually explicit photos, often in reference to teenagers by teenagers.

I am always interested in word play , but this one was a bit of a shock. It was brought to our attention by a school principal, who is having to deal with this issue.

The foreclosure rate in Louisiana remained below the national average in February, despite a big jump in seizures from the previous month. According to RealtyTrac, one out of every 2,742 Louisiana homes was in some state of foreclosure last month, compared with the national average of one for every 440 homes. That put Louisiana 40th in a ranking of foreclosure rates by states and the District of Columbia. Foreclosures were up 40% from January, but only 4.3% when compared with February 2008.

Airline Agent - Montrose Airport, Montrose CO 3/2009

It appears that once again, US Senator David Vitter, has managed to have negative light shine upon him. It has been reported last week that Senator Vitter showed up late at Dulles airport for a flight to New Orleans. The gate was already closed, but Senator Vitter tried to force the security door open, setting off a security alarm. The gate agent told the Senator he could not do that, but the Senator screamed at the agent saying “Do you know who I am”. Security was summoned but the senator by then had left the airport.

CALI

Years ago , I would on occasion mass email a group of new images.

Most people loved the visual surprise I sent out.  So, in the new form of a blog entry vs. an email blast , is a group of images made in and around Los Angeles in February of this year.

I call them CALI.

The Louisiana National Guard , thankfully , arrived in New Orleans in the Summer of 2006 to supplement the under-manned New Orleans Police Department. Numerous extensions to the deployment had occurred in the ensuing years, but unfortunately, it all ended March 1st. The Guard deployment was pulled
and
the train left the station!

The Vision of a Nightmare

The Vision, Miami Beach FL 2005

I have always had trouble remembering my dreams,
although this is a nightmare - dream?

I am on a bus , like a Greyhound. Its night time and we are traveling along what appears to be an interstate highway. The wind starts to blow pretty strong. Its shaking the bus, back and forth. It gets my attention , then my discomfort and then my fear. I now see a bright white light moving towards us. It's moving very fast. The wind , the light , whatever it is engulfs me and the bus.

Its all over!
