Fats Domino's House, 9th Ward - New Orleans 8/2006

A friend , Minnesota photographer, Stuart Klipper sent me this clip.
It's a real jambalaya: Ray Charles, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Fats Domino

*jambalaya - a dish of Creole origin, consisting of rice cooked with ham, sausage, chicken, or shellfish, herbs, spices, and vegetables, esp. tomatoes, onions, and peppers.

Since Ray Charles died in 2004, I don't think that video was "taken" in March of 2006 like the Web site says. It looks like part of "Fats and Friends," a Cinemax film made in 1986. It was filmed at Storeyville Jazz Hall in New Orleans. I was at the show that night. It was great! Ron Wood from the Rolling Stones and Paul Schaffer from David Letterman's band were part of the all-star band. They appear in this video clip as well.

My real point was about fats Domino, because after Katrina hit , no one could find him! He was thought to have parished in the storm, but in fact, Fats had made it to Baton Rouge. He was staying with LSU basketball star, "Big Baby". I passed by Fats' home in the 9th Ward more than a year after Katrina and made this photograph.

Yeah, I remember people wrote R.I.P. on the front of his house. I thought it was a heck of a coincidence that you posted a video clip from a show I went to 20 years ago. There weren't that many people in the building, maybe 400.
