HEARD A HOMELESS SPUN JOKE TODAY.............

Man on Bus, London UK 2006 from UK is OK

Yesterday in a speech to the American Association for Public Opinion Research, New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin cracked that the best way to deal with the homeless problem was to “find some bus tickets. We’ll see, one way.”
What kind of solution is this? Homelessness is a very serious issue that needs to be addressed. It is a catastrophe that 12,000 people are living on the streets of New Orleans. The problem has only gotten worse during the Nagin administration.
Remember in the immediate aftermath of Katrina, Nagin called on people to return to New Orleans, even though the housing stock was not restored. Certainly Nagin contributed to the problem the city is facing today.
His lack of leadership on the issue has been apparent. For months, Nagin has promised to address the growing homeless population encamped at the intersection of Canal and Claiborne Avenues; however, he has failed to take effective action. The homeless problem cannot be solved with one-way tickets out of town, but it does need to be addressed.

Keeping your guard up!

New Orleans Police Station Mural, 1998 from SNAPSHOT

The New Orleans police department ranks have been decimated as a result of hurricane Katrina and they are having trouble getting staffed up! Thankfully , the Louisiana National Guard , specifically 300 troops, have had a presence in New Orleans since the storm , backing up the police. The guard has been a huge help in making New Orleans a safer place. The problem is that the Guard is due to pull out in June. Here is what you can do:

Take 5 minutes to let Governor Bobby Jindal know that you support keeping the National Guard in New Orleans!

New Orleans should focus on rebuilding, not conspiracy theories
New Orleans residents are casting a wary eye on activity going on in Baton Rouge, says Business Report Executive Editor JR Ball. Efforts to establish an economic development corridor along Interstate 10 and Interstate 12 are seen as trying to wipe out the city.
"Here’s a thought: Instead of conspiracy theories, New Orleanians could focus on saving their once wonderfully charming and historic city," Ball says. Read the column here. Send comments to editors@businessreport.com.

Road Home efforts to recover overpayments will not create hardships
by David Hammer, The Times-Picayune
Tuesday April 01, 2008, 8:03 PM

State officials say the Road Home program will not be allowed to go after homeowners for grant overpayments until a government panel reviews each case, and the head of the Louisiana Recovery Authority promised that compassion will be used in any reclaiming of grant money.

LRA Executive Director Paul Rainwater sought to assuage fears of Road Home recipients Tuesday after weekend reports that the Road Home contractor, ICF International, planned to hire a collection agency or similar firm to reclaim money from some homeowners.

The collection effort, scheduled to last a little more than a year, isn't expected to affect the overwhelming majority of grant recipients.
