WHO WHAT WHERE WHEN WHY DAT

The all controlling National Football League (NFL) is again flexing it’s muscles, claiming copyright to the chant “Who Dat”. A number of retailers and T-shirt shops in Baton Rouge and New Orleans have received cease and desist letters from the league, claiming copyright infringement.

The only problem is that the phrase may actually originate in the lyrics of a turn of the century Jazz tune. The phrase was also used in a 1980’s music video which featured one of the Neville brothers.

So what does all this mean? We may not know who owns the copyright because there is confusion as to when and where it was first used and for what purpose.

Who Dat say you can't Who Dat? I guess the NFL!
