The Birds......

The birds were flying,
the birds were dying...
smoke filled the air.
The silence was silenced,
by the sound of choppers everywhere.

These two images were made a few days after hurricane Katrina on Lake Ponchatrain levee , where sandbagging
operations were in full force trying to stop the flooding at the 17th Street canal bordering Metairie and New Orleans. The smell of diesel fuel filled the air. The military were the only people around, it looked like a war zone.
