On Being Hit by a Truck

Utility Truck, Baton Rouge LA 2009

My grandmother often said , "Suffer for Jesus" , when something went wrong and bad things happened.

My father says, "things are never as good or as bad as you think they are".

Unless of course you get hit by a truck, in which case you have already suffered a lot
and if you are dead, its pretty bad!

The Rev. Gerhard Maria Wagner, who recently commented that New Orleans had been punished by God in the form of Katrina,  because it is a "sinful" city, has withdrawn his name as the Pope's appointment for the position of auxiliary bishop in Linz , Germany.

Tangled Up in Blue

Police Officer, Tiger Stadium, Baton Rouge LA 2008

I had previously blogged about the New Orleans Police Department decision to change uniform shirt colors from the long standing powder blue to dark black.

The change was made in part to wipe away the memory of Katrina day events. I questioned the wisdom of placing officers on the hot streets of New Orleans in that dark color!

Well , today , it was announced in the newspaper that NOPD is going back to its original powder blue! Why? In part because the black shirts, besides looking paramilitary, were found to be too hot!

DIFFERENT POINTS OF VIEW

Art Fair, Key Biscayne FL 2007

The State of Louisiana has one Democrat and one Republican representing us in the United States Senate. Unfortunately, our senators often vote against each other,  thus canceling out a voice for Louisiana.

Its not good for us,
but it represents different points of view!

Nothing is free, but a New Orleans realtor, Joshua Kahler , has launched a petition to have Louisiana’s homestead exemption raised from $75,000. to $150,000 or $160,000.. Why, the exemption has not been raised in years to reflect inflation and raising home values.

Senator John Alario, D-Westwego, plans on filing legislation to raise the homestead exemption to reflect new values.
